MATER jewellery tales aims to endow jewelry with a blend of local DNA (inspiration and footprint) and the author's emotion.
MATER was born with the mission to combine in a jewel the attributes of an author's piece through local architecture, history, and cultural and human legacy. The jewels are its fragments.
MATER's work is based on geometrized interpretations that undergo successive simplifications.
Each piece is handmade and combines knowledge of innovative computational design with classic and traditional jewelry techniques, reflecting the duality between computational design and craft.
MATER means origin, mother of all things, origin of matter, origin of the dream.
Author
Sara Coutinho was born in 1978, in Porto.
Passionate about the human/body relationship, she found in jewelry the perfect partner.
A product designer with a master's degree in jewelry, she aims to merge the attributes of an authorial design product with historical, cultural, and human legacy.
She worked for 13 years in direct contact with factory production in Portugal and Italy, utilizing different technologies. After acquiring skills in both jewelry and silverware design development, as well as project management, Sara decided to channel her experience into detail-oriented projects and build her own venture.
Winning the ASA award, a business competition promoted by ANJE (National Association of Young Entrepreneurs), gave her the necessary confidence to move forward with MATER jewellery tales.
MATER was born in 2015, created by Sara.

MATER chooses to work locally with specialized partners and in an artisanal manner.
All different areas of the business, such as packaging and displays, are produced in Porto or its surroundings.
Our precious metals are sourced from ecological origins.
Furthermore, our diamond suppliers are participants in the Kimberley Process.
It is our goal to find sustainable solutions at every stage of manufacturing.
