Hallmarks in Portugal are intended to independently verify the legal fineness of the jewellery, holding accountable not only the maker of the item but also the official responsible for checking its fineness, ensuring impartiality.
All pieces are stamped by the Portuguese Assay Office (Contrastaria Portuguesa).
If a buyer has any doubts about the authenticity of the marks, they may request verification from the Assay Office services. Daily metal quotations are available from the Bank of Portugal.
